1996 SESSION
967178483Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 46.2-736.1 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 46.2-736.1. Special license plates for certain officials.
On request, the Commissioner shall issue special license plates to the following officials: the Speaker of the House of Delegates, members of the House of Delegates, members of the Virginia Senate, the Clerk of the House of Delegates, the Clerk of the Virginia Senate, the Governor of Virginia, the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, the Attorney General of Virginia, United States Congressmen, and United States Senators.
The number shown on any license plate issued under this section to any member of the Virginia House of Delegates or the Virginia Senate shall be based on the relative seniority of the member within his house, with the most senior member being number one. As members' seniorities change, their license plate numbers shall change correspondingly. However, any member who so requests shall be issued a license plate whose license plate number is the same as the member's House of Delegates or Senate district number, regardless of any change in seniority, provided that the license number based on the member's district number would be no lower than the license number based on the member's seniority.
The provisions of subdivisions 1 and 2 of subsection B of § 46.2-725 shall not apply to license plates issued under this section.
