Introduced by: William C. Wampler III | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles | history
SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:
Standards of Learning assessment revision work group; consideration of effectiveness of assessments for students with disabilities. Requires the work group established by the Secretary of Education and the Superintendent of Public Instruction to study and develop a plan relating to revisions to Standards of Learning assessments to consider the effectiveness of assessments for students with disabilities, including the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program for those students with the most significant cognitive disabilities, and the use of those assessments to improve and individualize instruction.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Board of Education; students with disabilities; assessment frequency. Requires the Board of Education to permit students with disabilities to take Standards of Learning assessments or alternative assessment methods on a less frequent basis than is otherwise required in order to provide such students with additional time for personalized instruction on practical skills, provided that an eligible student's Individual Education Program team makes the final determination as to whether such a reduction in frequency of such assessments is appropriate for the student.
