20102611DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 46.2-1001.2 as follows:
§ 46.2-1001.2. Remote update of motor vehicle software.
Any motor vehicle dealer or manufacturer, as those terms are defined in § 46.2-1500, may offer to the owner or lessee of any such motor vehicle the option to have any future software updates for the motor vehicle sent remotely to such motor vehicle without bringing the motor vehicle to a dealer or a service facility. Such updates may be offered free of charge. No person shall operate a motor vehicle during any such remote software update.
