16104522DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 54.1-2605 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 54.1-2605. Practice of assistant speech-language pathologists.
A person who has met the qualifications prescribed by the
Board may practice as an assistant speech-language pathologist in accordance
with regulations of the Board and may perform limited duties not
that are otherwise restricted to the practice of a speech-language
pathologist under the supervision and direction of a licensed
speech-language pathologist.
2. That the Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology may adopt regulations governing the practice of assistant speech-language pathologists, which may include provisions for either the licensure or the certification of assistant speech-language pathologists, as determined by the Board, as well as requirements for the qualifications of assistant speech-language pathologists, the duties of assistant speech-language pathologists, and supervision of assistant speech-language pathologists by licensed speech-language pathologists. The Board shall report its findings and conclusions and the status of such regulations to the Chairmen of the House Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions and the Senate Committee on Education and Health by December 1, 2016.
