SUMMARY:

Charter; City of Williamsburg. Allows the city council, in concurrence with the board of supervisors of James City County, to petition the circuit court asking that a referendum be held in accordance with the provisions of § 15.1-40.2 of the Code of Virginia on the question of whether the two localities may share the office of sheriff; however, the petition may be initiated by the two governing bodies, with the concurrence of the sheriffs of the two localities, rather than by a petition of qualified voters as required by § 15.1-40.2.
