Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Chapter 1 of Title 6.1 a section numbered 6.1-2.9:6 as follows:

§ 6.1-2.9:6. Register of financial institution names.

The State Corporation Commission through its Bureau of Financial Institutions shall establish and maintain a register of the names of financial institutions doing business within the Commonwealth and subject to the Commission’s regulation. The register shall be:

1. Prepared and periodically updated to include all names and name changes associated with such financial institutions, including name changes resulting from consolidation, merger, or other reorganization.

2. Indexed to permit prompt identification of the names of preceding, succeeding or affiliated entities, if any, associated with a financial institution.

3. Available to members of the public.
