SUMMARY:
Study; Physician's prescriptive authority. Establishes a joint subcommittee to study the physician's control over prescriptions issued to patients. The joint subcommittee is to determine the extent to which pharmacy benefits are controlled by managed care organizations, the authority of pharmacists to substitute and dispense generic or other drugs for the medication which has been prescribed, the extent to which patient health is compromised by such practices, and ways to ensure the integrity of the physician's prescriptive authority. Referred by Speaker's letter from to the Joint Commission on Health Care to conduct the study.
