1998 SESSION
WHEREAS, in June 1998 Fairfax County and George Mason University will host the 1998 World Congress on Information Technology; and
WHEREAS, the World Congress, held biennially, brings together more than 1,800 senior information technology executives from over 50 countries; and
WHEREAS, Fairfax County was chosen as the host site for the 1998 World Congress by the executive committee of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance in 1995; and
WHEREAS, Fairfax County's bid to host the World Congress was strongly and consistently supported by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, which has worked tirelessly to make Fairfax County a world center of business and commerce; and
WHEREAS, the 1998 World Congress provides Virginia with an opportunity to showcase its technology capabilities and gain immediate, worldwide exposure for the unique attributes of Fairfax County; and
WHEREAS, Fairfax County, with its already booming high-technology industry, can only benefit from playing host to one of the world's most significant gatherings of information technology leaders; and
WHEREAS, the World Congress, scheduled for June 21-24, 1998, will also showcase George Mason University, a regional leader in high technology studies; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby designate the month of June 1998 as Technology Month in Virginia, in honor of the 1998 World Congress on Information Technology; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Fairfax County Economic Development Authority and the World Information Technology and Services Alliance as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation and support for the 1998 World Congress on Information Technology.
