981579466Whereas, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University holds by deeds of gift real property, approximately 64 acres, located off State Highway 91 in Smyth County on the north side of Saltville; and
Whereas, VPI&SU no longer uses this property for a field station; and
Whereas, the Town of Saltville is in a position to utilize the building and grounds of the existing field station for various beneficial public purposes; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. That the Commonwealth of Virginia is hereby authorized to convey by gift, with the approval of the Governor and in a form approved by the Attorney General, to the Town of Saltville, certain property held by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, consisting of 64.08 acres of real property with an appraised value of $64,500 currently in use by the Town of Saltville and the Museum of the Middle Appalachians for educational, historical, cultural, or public purposes. The deed of conveyance shall require that the property be maintained and used solely for educational, historical, cultural or public purposes. If these conditions are not met, ownership and control of the property shall revert to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, provided that for a period of twenty years from the enactment of this section, the Town of Saltville may purchase said property from the Commonwealth at the appraised value.
