WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin, a senior on the Twin Springs High School basketball team, broke the Virginia High School League all-classifications career scoring record of 2,530 points; and

WHEREAS, the record, previously held by Odell Hodge of Laurel Park High School, fell when Stacy Ervin scored 31 points in a 66-57 victory by Twin Springs over district rival Thomas Walker High School; and

WHEREAS, with several games in the 1996-97 basketball season yet to be played, Stacy Ervin will undoubtedly increase his career scoring record and set an even higher standard for future players; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin also holds the state record for three-point baskets in a game, 12, and for three-point baskets in a career, 346 and counting; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin, who also holds his school record with 53 points in one game, has been named three times to the All Cumberland District Team and has twice been named the Player of the Year for the Cumberland District; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin has also garnered regional and statewide honors, including being named three times to the All Region D team, twice winning Player of the Year honors for Region D, and twice being named Group A Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin has been nominated for the highly prestigious McDonald's All America Team; and

WHEREAS, as his high school career draws to a close, Stacy Ervin can reflect with pride on four years of record-setting performances and look forward with confidence to competing successfully at the next level; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate Stacy Ervin on setting a new Virginia High School League career scoring record; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Stacy Ervin as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his outstanding achievements and best wishes for continued success.
