WHEREAS, Arthur M. "Artie" Levin, known throughout Western Virginia as "Mr. Fitness" for many years, died on May 3, 1996; and

WHEREAS, a native of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Artie Levin settled in Roanoke in 1943, after arriving as a World War II flight instructor at Woodrum Field; and

WHEREAS, beginning in 1961, Artie Levin's morning exercise show ran for over 25 years on Roanoke television stations, earning Artie Levin the lasting sobriquet, "Mr. Fitness"; and

WHEREAS, a popular personality in Roanoke for decades, Artie Levin was known for his friendliness, his generosity, and his devotion to physical fitness; and

WHEREAS, in 1992, Artie Levin won the 75-and-over age group of the Central Florida Sprint Triathlon, a demanding event that includes swimming, running, and bicycling; and

WHEREAS, Artie Levin was also devoted to civic affairs, was an active member of B'nai Brith and the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and received the Father of the Year Award for Religious Activities in 1962; and

WHEREAS, throughout his long and productive life, Artie Levin was a constant and positive influence on the lives of generations of Western Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the loss of a singularly well-respected and well-loved Virginian, Arthur M. "Artie" Levin; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Arthur M. Levin as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
