SUMMARY:
Virginia Geographic Information Authority. Creates the Virginia Geographic Information Authority to oversee the construction and maintenance of a statewide, shared geographic information system to meet the strategic geographic information needs of the Commonwealth. The Authority shall provide geographic information products and access to geographic information to state agencies, local and regional governments, private companies, and individual citizens. The Authority shall utilize the private sector, to the fullest extent feasible, for the design, development, and distribution of the geographic information resources. The measure will become law only if reenacted by the 1997 session.
