1996 SESSION
WHEREAS, the James River Task Force was created at a 1993 regional summit meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Chesterfield County and Hanover County and Council members of the City of Richmond and subsequently approved by the Board of Supervisors of Henrico County; and
WHEREAS, the James River Task Force was directed to study the development of the James River as a regional tourist attraction; to preserve major scenic and historic resources; to communicate plans by each locality to ensure quality development, maximum utilization of resources, and protection of the environment; to help guide future development of the James River; and to cultivate the James River as a "highway of history"; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force Advisory Committee, chaired by Peter Cleal, has successfully completed James River Days, a three day private-public regional partnership to promote use and enjoyment of the river; and
WHEREAS, other municipalities and private entities located on the James River from Nelson County on the west to Charles City County on the east have asked to participate in James River Days; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate June of each year James River Month in Virginia, in celebration of the rich cultural, historical and financial heritage of the beautiful and mighty James River.
