SUMMARY:
Sheriffs; number of deputies. Allows the sheriff of a locality to recommend to the Compensation Board the number of law-enforcement positions to be fixed for the sheriff's office and requires that the requests or recommendations for positions be submitted before February 1 rather than April 1 as under current law. The bill also provides for a minimum number of law-enforcement positions for counties without a police force, to be fixed at not less than one for each 1,500 of population, with a minimum of five deputies in those counties having a population of less than 8,000. The bill includes a no-loss provision.
