SUMMARY:
Continued health insurance coverage. Requires the Commonwealth to purchase continued health insurance coverage for law-enforcement officers, correctional officers, and jail officers, including deputy sheriffs, who become permanently and totally incapacitated while in the line of duty if certain conditions are met. The bill also requires the Commonwealth to purchase continued health insurance coverage for the surviving spouse and any dependents of any law-enforcement officers, correctional officers, and jail officers who die while in the line of duty if certain conditions are met. When it becomes effective July 1, 1994, eligibility for coverage will be retroactive to January 1, 1989. However, no state financial obligation will retroactively attach.
