1995 SESSION
HB 2516 Sheep Industry Board.
Introduced by: R. Creigh Deeds | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Virginia Sheep Industry Board. Creates a 14-member Virginia Sheep Industry Board to promote and develop the sheep industry in the Commonwealth. The establishment of the Board and the funding of its activities are contingent upon the favorable outcome of a referendum on whether the members of the sheep industry agree to be assessed 50 cents per head for each sheep or lamb sold in Virginia. The fee will be used to finance the activities of the Board, which will be composed of representatives of the various sectors of the industry. If established, the Board will have the authority to raise the assessment 10 cents per year, up to a maximum assessment of one dollar per head. The bill also contains a provision which authorizes, beginning July 1, 1995, the assessment of 50 cents per head for sheep or lambs sold in Virginia until sufficient funds have been collected to pay the costs associated with conducting the referendum.
