HB 2118 Probationary terms of service for teachers.
Introduced by: Phillip A. Hamilton | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Probationary terms of service for teachers. Increases the probationary term of service required for teachers to achieve continuing contract status to five years and also increases to three years the maximum probationary period that may be required by a school board for teachers moving to another school division or returning to teaching after a two-year absence.
Under current law, a three-year probationary term of service in the same school division is required for the issuance of a continuing contract for a teacher; these contracts are then effectively renewed automatically each year, during "good behavior and competent service." Once continuing contract status has been reached, an additional probationary term need not be served in another division unless the employment contract so specifies. A one-year probationary term may be required when a continuing contract teacher returns to teaching after a two-year absence.
