SUMMARY:
“Gun-Free School Zone.” Requires local school boards and the governing body of private and parochial schools to designate school property, buildings, and grounds as “Gun-Free Zones.” Local school boards and governing boards of private and parochial schools must also conspicuously post all such areas with signs designating such areas as “Gun-Free Zones.” Local school boards are also required to take such action as may be necessary to enforce compliance with the provisions of § 18.2-308.1, which prohibits weapons on school property and the discharging of firearms upon school property or within 1,000 feet of such property, and provides penalties for violation of such law.
