1995 SESSION
HB 1894 Fines and costs; interest.
Introduced by: James F. Almand | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Fines and costs; interest. Reduces the period during which interest is not owed on fines and costs imposed from 90 days to 40 days following conviction. The 40 day time period is consistent with § 19.2-349 under which the obligation to pay does become delinquent until 30 days after expiration of the 10 day time period for appeal.
The bill clarifies that interest is not to be charged where payments are being made in accordance with a court-approved, deferred-payment plan.
The bill is recommended by the Committee on District Courts.
