HB 1763 Elected school board in Loudoun County; chairman elected at large.

Introduced by: Joe T. May | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Elected school boards in certain counties; chairman elected at large. Applies to certain counties (Loudoun County) which elect the chairman of the board of supervisors at large. If the voters of the county approve by referendum a change to an elected school board, the bill provides that one member of the school board will be elected at large and that he will serve as chairman for his term of office. The bill overrides the general law provision (§ 22.1-76) under which the school board elects its chairman annually. The bill also provides that an option (set out elsewhere in the law) for staggered terms for school boards will not apply to the county.
