1995 SESSION
HB 1718 Teen court program.
Introduced by: Robert D. Orrock, Sr. | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Teen court program. Authorizes the establishment of teen court programs, similar to the one started in Odessa, Texas. The court may defer disposition in relatively minor cases (e.g., traffic violations, shoplifting, etc.) involving juvenile offenders who volunteer to participate in a peer trial and sentencing process. The court may ultimately dismiss all of the charges. The program must be approved by the juvenile court of the jurisdiction . The programs are designed to give these juveniles a better understanding of the criminal justice system. The programs are run by volunteers and monitored by adults.
