SUMMARY:
Bond issue; Virginia Public Building Authority (VPBA). Authorizes the issuance of $97.5 million in VPBA bonds. Of this sum, $95.8 million will be used as follows: Two new adult detention centers; seven new work centers; renovation of Mecklenburg; expansion of Sussex I; expansion of the new women's multi-custody prison; increased funding for the maximum-security prison to be located in Sussex County; and expansion of the Beaumont juvenile facility. These projects will generate an additional 10,340 beds. Siting of the new adult detention centers is subject to local approval. The bill also authorizes $1.7 million for emergency repairs to the Science Museum of Virginia. The Governor is also directed to develop a plan for the Red Onion Mountain site in Wise County.
