SUMMARY:
Virginia Education Reform Act. Establishes the Virginia Education Reform Act which authorizes the Board of Education to develop an age appropriate, developmental curriculum for use with preschoolers to prepare them for the regular instructional program in public schools. The bill also requires school boards to strictly enforce school board policies governing student conduct, establish requirements for classroom behavior and standards for managing students who repeatedly fail to perform classroom and homework assignments, establish a program with the Board of Social Services for the engagement of public assistance recipients in the public schools, provide single-gender education, and require the early identification of and delivery of services to at-risk students. This bill was carried over by the House Education Committee.
