1995 SESSION
HB 1046 Nonrenewal of certain teaching contracts.
Introduced by: Phillip A. Hamilton | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Nonrenewal of certain teaching contracts. Conditions the grant of a teaching contract to those teachers who have achieved continuing contract status upon an annual determination by the school board that the most competent individuals have been hired. Under current law, teachers who have completed the required probationary period are entitled to continuing contracts during good behavior and competent service and prior to the age at which they are eligible or required to retire. Written notice of noncontinuation of the contract by either party must be given by April 15 of each year; otherwise the contract continues in effect for the next year. This measure affords the employing school board the opportunity to decline to renew the teaching contract of a continuing contract teacher within the stipulated time periods if a more qualified individual is hired. This bill was carried over by the House Education Committee.
