WHEREAS, Margaret Venable Price Irby, a former member of the Martinsville City School Board, died on January 29, 1995; and

WHEREAS, a native of Chase City and a graduate of Randolph-Macon Women's College, Margaret Irby was a high school teacher in Crew before she married Dr. Jethro Irby in 1942; and

WHEREAS, following World War II, Margaret Irby and her husband moved to Martinsville, where Dr. Irby established a medical practice; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Irby became only the third woman to serve on the Martinsville City School Board; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Irby also served as an officer and Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the American Cancer Society and the Patrick Henry Medical Society Auxiliary; and

WHEREAS, a well-known, popular, and highly respected citizen of Martinsville, Margaret Irby leaves a legacy of long and commendable service to her church, her community, and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of Margaret Venable Price Irby; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Margaret Venable Price Irby as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
