WHEREAS, Eugene Chismer, a Williamsburg businessman well-known for his kindness and concern for the welfare of his many employees, died on December 10, 1994; and

WHEREAS, a partner in the firm of C & N Dining, Gene Chismer operated restaurant franchises in the Williamsburg area and throughout eastern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, closely involved in the day-to-day operation of his business, Gene Chismer was renowned for his kindness, his concern, his compassion, and his generosity toward his employees; and

WHEREAS, Gene Chismer’s firm employs nearly 900 people, many of them in eastern Virginia and the Williamsburg area, where C & N Dining operates four franchises and a popular restaurant on Merchants Square; and

WHEREAS, Gene Chismer was a member of the Williamsburg Area Chamber of Commerce and the Williamsburg Rotary Club and served on the board of the Greater Williamsburg United Way; and

WHEREAS, since the establishment of his business in 1980, Gene Chismer was singularly successful in creating jobs for Virginians and in earning and retaining the loyalty and compassion of his hundreds of employees; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, Eugene Chismer; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Eugene Chismer as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
