HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 719
Commending the Menchville High School boys' track team.

WHEREAS, in June 1994, the boys' track team from Menchville High School of Newport News won the 1994 Virginia High School League, Group AAA, state championship; and

WHEREAS, the victory by the Menchville High School track team completed a sweep of track titles, as the Monarchs earlier had won both the Peninsula District championship and the Eastern Region title; and

WHEREAS, led by state champions Robert Hunt, in the shot put and the discus, and Shaun Ricks, in the 400 meters, Menchville High School compiled 41 points to win the state meet; and

WHEREAS, the Monarchs also received points from Kai Vann in the 200 meters, Nick Valenti in the 3,200 meters, and the 1,600-meter relay team -- Shaun Ricks, Mike Facen, Ian Blackwood, and DeQuan Goodwin; and

WHEREAS, Menchville's state championship is a tribute to the fine performances of the Monarch athletes and the inspired leadership of Head Coach Don Mollenhauer and assistant coaches Daniel Thompson, Phillip Miller, Ted Bacote, and John Hundley; and

WHEREAS, through a combination of intense individual effort, teamwork, and determination, the Monarchs from Menchville High School emerged victorious from a close, hard-fought state title competition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Menchville High School boys' track team on its triumphant season and 1994 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Don Mollenhauer in honor of the championship performance of the Monarchs from Menchville High School.
