1995 SESSION
WHEREAS, Ronnie Watson, Sr., treasurer of the United Rubber Workers Local 831 at the Danville Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company plant, won the worldwide E. J. Thomas Goodyear Spirit Award; and
WHEREAS, an employee at the Danville Goodyear plant since 1970, Ronnie Watson was selected for the award from among 11 division winners representing more than 92,000 Goodyear associates in the United States and 27 other countries; and
WHEREAS, in becoming the first Danville employee to win the Spirit Award, Ronnie Watson was cited for his contributions to Goodyear, to his community, and to the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, long involved in education, Ronnie Watson has served as a member of the Pittsylvania County School Board and state and national school board associations and has served on numerous state and local committees to improve education for gifted students; and
WHEREAS, Ronnie Watson has also served as a member of the Cascade Ruritan Club, the Danville Sertoma Club, the Brosville Volunteer Fire Department board, and the Danville/Pittsylvania County United Way board; and
WHEREAS, clearly a deserving recipient of the international Goodyear Spirit Award, Ronnie Watson's deep involvement in his community brings great honor to himself and the Goodyear Company; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly join with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in honoring the civic contributions of Ronnie Watson, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ronnie Watson, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect and appreciation for his accomplishments.
