HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 523
Commending the Reverend Cecil Bridgeforth.

WHEREAS, with the backing of his congregation, the Reverend Cecil Bridgeforth, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Danville, is making an impact on the Danville community; and

WHEREAS, with no funding beyond a few dollars of his own money and with only seven children at the outset, the Reverend Bridgeforth created a summer program at the Almagro Outreach Center; and

WHEREAS, by the end of the summer, about 40 children, from two to 12 years of age, arrived at the center daily for a meal and the numerous activities organized by Cecil Bridgeforth; and

WHEREAS, using an old building reclaimed by the church, the Almagro Outreach Center has provided tutoring for students, all of whom received passing grades during the 1993-94 school year; has held classes and community forums for senior citizens; and has offered self-defense classes and other activities to neighborhood residents; and

WHEREAS, the Reverend Bridgeforth continues to work to expand the programs and the effectiveness of the Almagro Outreach Center, with the goal of making it a true community center and a valuable resource for the citizens of Danville; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Reverend Cecil Bridgeforth for his valuable and ongoing work on behalf of the Almagro Outreach Center and the many citizens who have benefited from its programs; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Cecil Bridgeforth in honor of the outstanding community service spirit of Shiloh Baptist Church and its pastor.
