1995 SESSION
(SB1122)GOVERNOR'S VETO EXPLANATION (March 27, 1995)
In accordance with Article V, Section 6 of the Constitution of Virginia, I am vetoing this bill.
I proposed to amend the original purpose of this bill that attempted to create a check-off on state income tax forms as a means of voluntarily funding contributions to the renovation of the Governor's Mansion. Unfortunately, the General Assembly failed to agree to the amendment.
While I am most appreciative to the bill's patron for the sentiment behind this bill, I believe that purely private contributions (not assisted by the State Tax Department's forms and facilities) will be sufficient and are a more appropriate way to fund any renovations to the Governor's Mansion.
Accordingly, I must veto this bill.
