SUMMARY:

Delaying school year opening. Requests local school boards to delay the opening of the 1994-95 school year until September 8, 1994, thereby allowing students to celebrate Rosh Hashanah with their families. Pursuant to § 22.1-79.1, local school boards are required to set the school calendar so that the first day of student attendance falls after Labor Day. For the 1994-95 school year, setting the opening of school immediately after Labor Day would fall on September 6 and 7, coinciding with Rosh Hashanah, one of the holiest observances for Jews.
