1994 SESSION
HB 728 Cremains of bodies donated for medical research.
Introduced by: Franklin P. Hall | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Cremains of bodies donated for medical research. Requires persons authorized to receive anatomical gifts for medical or scientific research and study to return the cremains of such bodies and parts thereof after such study to the decedent's family upon their request, in the order of priority provided by law. The cremains of such persons, to the extent possible, may not be commingled or placed in the same container or urn. At present, the cremains of deceased persons who donated their bodies to medical research in Virginia cannot be returned to their families because of the closing of the state's crematory by order of the U. S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) due to safety hazards. In addition, the provisions of this bill are contingent upon the appropriation of funds for these purposes by the General Assembly.
