WHEREAS, on August 31, 1993, Dr. David K. Wiecking retired from state service, thus ending a distinguished 21-year career as Virginia's chief medical examiner; and

WHEREAS, a graduate Princeton University and the Johns Hopkins University and University of Virginia Medical Schools, Dr. Wiecking assumed the post of medical examiner on July 1, 1972; and

WHEREAS, as chief medical examiner, Dr. Wiecking also served as chairman of the legal medicine department at the Medical College of Virginia campus of Virginia Commonwealth University; and

WHEREAS, held in high esteem by colleagues and by the many prosecutors who came to rely on his expert medical testimony, Dr. Wiecking built an enviable reputation for thoroughness, professionalism, and integrity; and

WHEREAS, his over two decades of meritorious service to the Commonwealth have earned Dr. David Wiecking the gratitude of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Dr. David K. Wiecking for his outstanding career as Virginia's chief medical examiner; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. David K. Wiecking as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his excellent service to the Commonwealth and best wishes for a long and fulfilling retirement.
