SUMMARY AS PASSED:
School Construction Program and Fund; career and technical education programs eligible. Clarifies that, for the purposes of eligibility to receive grants through the School Construction Fund and Program, "local school division" includes any joint or regional school established in accordance with relevant law and "public school buildings and facilities" or "public school buildings" include any building or facility used for career and technical education programs provided at any such joint or regional school. This bill is identical to SB 474.
SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:
Virginia Public School Construction Grants Program and Fund; career and technical education programs and joint or regional schools eligible. Clarifies that joint or regional schools such as academic year Governor's schools are eligible to participate in the Public School Construction Grants Program (the Program) and that school divisions may used grants received pursuant to the Program for construction, additions, infrastructure, site acquisition, and renovations for buildings and facilities used for career and technical education programs provided at a regional comprehensive school. This bill is identical to SB 474.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Virginia Public School Construction Grants Program and Fund; career and technical education programs eligible. Directs the Board of Education to revise the guidelines on the administration of the Virginia Public School Construction Grants Program to explicitly clarify that grants provided to a qualifying school division under the Program may be used for construction, additions, infrastructure, site acquisition, and renovations for buildings and facilities used for career and technical education programs provided at a regional comprehensive school. The bill also provides that "public school buildings and facilities" or "public school buildings" for the purposes of the Program includes any school building or facility used for career and technical education programs provided at any regional comprehensive school.
