2024 SESSION
WHEREAS, Mary Clyde James Carruth, first lady of the Holy Light Church of Deliverance in Portsmouth and a beloved member of the Portsmouth community, died on August 7, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Mary Carruth co-founded Holy Light Church of Deliverance in 1967 alongside her husband, Bishop Samuel L. Carruth; and
WHEREAS, affectionately known by many as “Mother Carruth,” Mary Carruth was actively engaged in the ministry over the years, inspiring countless individuals along their spiritual journeys; and
WHEREAS, Mary Carruth labored tirelessly to aid and support others in need, making a profound and lasting impact that will reverberate for generations; and
WHEREAS, preceded in death by her daughter, Linda, Mary Carruth will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her loving husband of 69 years, Samuel; her children, Fayette, Dorene, and Shorron, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Mary Clyde James Carruth, a pillar of the Holy Light Church of Deliverance community in Portsmouth, whose love and generosity touched many lives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mary Clyde James Carruth as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for her memory.
