Celebrating the life of Elbert Ray Lawson, Jr.

WHEREAS, Elbert Ray Lawson, Jr., a successful businessman and an active member of the Wise County community, died on February 25, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Ray Lawson and his brother, Steve, served local residents as the owners of Lawson Water Conditioning and the NAPA Auto Parts store in Wise; and

WHEREAS, Ray Lawson provided his leadership and expertise to the Wise Business Association and was active in many other community events; he was a recipient of the Hometown Hero Award from the Town of Wise for his contributions to local life; and

WHEREAS, Ray Lawson was an avid music lover who shared his passion with listeners as a volunteer radio announcer on WMMT 88.7, just over the border in Whitesburg, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Ray Lawson enjoyed playing horseshoes, fishing, and other outdoor activities, and he brought joy to others through his kindness, sense of humor, and penchant for storytelling; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by one son, David, Elbert Lawson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife, Cheryl; his sons, Michael and James, and their families; his stepdaughters, Kim and Gina, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Elbert Ray Lawson, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Elbert Ray Lawson, Jr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
