24108083DWHEREAS, the Honorable Ashby R. Pritchett, clerk of the Martinsville Circuit Court, retired as of January 2023; and
WHEREAS, Ashby Pritchett was the Martinsville Circuit Court clerk for nearly four decades, during which time he oversaw the effective and efficient administration of the court’s procedures and operations; and
WHEREAS, Ashby Pritchett oversaw the digitization of existing records, converting civil and criminal cases into the Circuit Case Management System and converting manual bookkeeping records into the Financial Accounting System, and he was a pioneer in imaging records of the Martinsville Circuit Court, including deed recordings, probate matters, and case records; and
WHEREAS, Ashby Pritchett greatly supported the mission of the Virginia Court Clerks Association by serving as the chair of its Education Committee, which supports the Office of The Executive Secretary Circuit Team by creating and maintaining programs and resource materials that educate and train clerks and deputy clerks in the Commonwealth’s circuit court system; and
WHEREAS, Ashby Pritchett also greatly supported the mission of the Virginia Court Clerks Association by serving as the chair of its Career Development Committee, creating and updating the Career Development Plan, whereby clerks and deputy clerks could become certified as master clerks or master deputy clerks, and his office was the first office in the Commonwealth to have all of its staff earn designation as master deputy clerks; and
WHEREAS, Ashby Pritchett was widely known among clerks and deputy clerks as the probate and estate expert in the Commonwealth, providing guidance and expert opinions to other court clerks and deputy clerks; and
WHEREAS, Ashby Pritchett was a member of the Martinsville-Henry County Bar Association, maintaining his law credentials during his tenure as clerk; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as a clerk of court, Ashby Pritchett served with the utmost integrity and made a profound and lasting impact on both the Martinsville community and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Honorable Ashby R. Pritchett hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Ashby R. Pritchett as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for his legacy of service and best wishes in his future endeavors.
