SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 115
Commending Eagle Carpets.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, March 6, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Eagle Carpets, a flooring company serving the communities of Harrisonburg and the Shenandoah Valley, celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2024; and

WHEREAS, the origin of Eagle Carpets dates to a fateful trip to Kennesaw, Georgia, when the company’s co-founder, Rodney Eagle, purchased a single roll of carpet on a whim while he was assisting with the delivery of styrofoam egg cartons; and

WHEREAS, Rodney Eagle made return trips to Georgia, negotiated terms with carpet mills in Cartersville and Dalton, rented warehouse space, and began selling and installing carpet in the Harrisonburg area; and

WHEREAS, Eagle Carpets has grown from a single roll of carpet to a 16,000-square-foot storeroom featuring carpet, hardwood, laminate, tile, luxury vinyl, and waterproof flooring options and area rugs; and

WHEREAS, Eagle Carpets has supported the development of Harrisonburg over the past half-century by providing and installing quality flooring products for its clients and has established its reputation as one of the city’s leading flooring companies; and

WHEREAS, Eagle Carpets has promoted a positive and supportive work place for its employees and shown great care and compassion for their well-being; and

WHEREAS, following a devastating fire in 2003, many local businesses in Harrisonburg rallied to aid Eagle Carpets in its recovery, a testament to the goodwill the company had acquired after decades of serving the community; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Eagle Carpets are the result of the vision and dedication of its founders and owners, the tireless efforts of its employees, and the overwhelming support of its customers and the Harrisonburg community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Eagle Carpets hereby be commended on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rodney and Sylvia Eagle, founders and owners of Eagle Carpets, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for the company’s history and best wishes for many years of continued success.
