SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 102
Commending the Richmond Canes.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, February 29, 2024

 

WHEREAS, the Richmond Canes, a flag football team of third and fourth graders in the Richmond Under the Lights league won the Under Armour-Under the Lights Winter National Championship for their division in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Under the Lights (UTL) is the original youth flag football partner of Under Armour, Inc., and the Richmond UTL league was established in 2020 under the leadership of the league’s commissioner, Jason Butler; and

WHEREAS, the UTL league offers both boys and girls from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade the opportunity to play flag football at a level that is safe, competitive, and enjoyable for all, fostering participants’ confidence and love for the game; and

WHEREAS, the Richmond Canes won all six regular season games, two playoff games, and the championship games in the fall of 2023; and

WHEREAS, as a result of their accomplishments, the Richmond Canes earned an invitation to the 2023 National UTL Tournament in San Antonio; and

WHEREAS, the success of the Richmond Canes is the result of the hard work and dedication of the young athletes, the leadership and guidance of head coach Joe Lewis and assistant coach Jamie Green, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Richmond UTL community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Richmond Canes of the Richmond Under the Lights league hereby be commended for winning the 2023 Under Armour-Under the Lights Winter National Championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Joe Lewis, head coach of the Richmond Canes, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for the team’s achievement.
