WHEREAS, for a total of 20 years over a 29-year period, Scott McGeary ably represented the residents of Arlington as a member of the Arlington Electoral Board; and
WHEREAS, a native of Northern Virginia, Scott McGeary pursued a career as an attorney after graduating from George Washington University and George Mason University; he currently serves as the director of state public policy for Washington Gas, a public utility and energy services company operating in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Scott McGeary moved to Arlington in 1961 and began volunteering in local government in the early 1960s, serving as secretary of the Arlington County Republican Committee, followed by a term as party chair; and
WHEREAS, Scott McGeary first joined the Arlington Electoral Board in 1994 and served as vice chair; he became chair from 1995 to 2002, vice chair again from 2010 to 2013, then secretary from 2016 to 2023; and
WHEREAS, during his long tenure on the Arlington Electoral Board, Scott McGeary witnessed significant growth and change in the community; he worked diligently to ensure electoral integrity and efficiency and oversaw the development of new processes and procedures, such as the implementation of ranked choice voting; and
WHEREAS, Scott McGeary also provided his expertise to the Arlington County Board of Zoning Appeals, the Arlington County Civic Federation, the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, the Kiwanis Club of Arlington, and numerous other civic and service organizations; and
WHEREAS, Scott McGeary chaired the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and worked with the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, the Prince William County Chamber of Commerce, and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Scott McGeary earned several awards and accolades over the course of his career and was inducted into the Arlington Business Hall of Fame for his contributions to business in Northern Virginia and across the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, in the summer of 2023, Scott McGeary, his wife Linda, and son Joey, relocated to Frederick County, Virginia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Scott McGeary for his two decades of service as a member of the Arlington Electoral Board; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Scott McGeary as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his achievements on behalf of the residents of Arlington.
