2024 SESSION
WHEREAS, Michael Anthony Harper, a champion for the Aberdeen neighborhood in Hampton who dedicated his time and talents to community and civic service throughout the region, died on April 13, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Michael Harper studied computer technology at ECPI University and marketing management at Norfolk State University; and
WHEREAS, Michael Harper served the residents of Hampton as the city planning commissioner and District 10 neighborhood commissioner; he was particularly passionate about promoting and enhancing the quality of life in Aberdeen; and
WHEREAS, Michael Harper supported local young people as an executive board member of Deen Ball Sports, Inc., which provides youth athletics programs to hundreds of participants each year; and
WHEREAS, Michael Harper was also a prolific writer with a masterful command of the English language who could captivate readers with his vibrant tales of the Aberdeen community and other stories; and
WHEREAS, Michael Harper will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved daughter, Jordin; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Michael Anthony Harper; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Michael Anthony Harper as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
