24100191DWHEREAS, for 75 years, the Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department has proudly served Westmoreland County, the Town of Montross, and the surrounding areas, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community’s members; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1948, the Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) has grown and evolved over the years to best meet the needs of its service area; and
WHEREAS, the WVFD currently operates out of both a main station in Montross and a substation in Mt. Holly, which was built in 2005 to improve response times in areas further from the main station; and
WHEREAS, the WVFD has acquired an extensive fleet of rescue engines and other vehicles to uphold the standards of a modern-day fire department and to ensure the department’s readiness in the face of a variety of emergencies; and
WHEREAS, the WVFD serves as the first response team for an area that includes over 150 miles of roads, approximately 5,000 people, and historic sites such as Robert E. Lee’s birthplace, Stratford Hall; and
WHEREAS, both the WVFD main station and the substation in Mt. Holly are entirely run by volunteers who devote countless hours of their time each year to safeguard their communities; and
WHEREAS, the WVFD is defined by the honor and integrity of its members and their commitment to providing the highest quality of service to the citizens of Westmoreland County and the Town of Montross; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the department’s legacy of service and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
