Commending the Parry McCluer High School boys' cross country team.

WHEREAS, the Parry McCluer High School boys’ cross country team secured its third state title in five years by winning the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship in November 2023; and

WHEREAS, the Parry McCluer High School Fighting Blues scored 61 points to defeat the runners-up from Mathews High School by an 18-point margin in the team standings; and

WHEREAS, senior Kovyk Chandler also earned his first individual state title, finishing in first place with a time of 15:54.1 on the five-kilometer course at Green Hill Park in Salem; his brother, freshman Kebryl Chandler, finished in second place with a personal record of 15:59.1; and

WHEREAS, the three other members of the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues to score points were sophomore Logan Wheelock in seventh place with a personal record of 16:44.6, sophomore Josh Cooper in 12th place with a time of 17:30.4, and freshman Sam Carpenter in 52nd place with a time of 19:11.1; and

WHEREAS, the successful season is a tribute to the perseverance and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire Parry McCluer High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Parry McCluer High School boys’ cross country team on winning the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship in 2023; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Parry McCluer High School boys’ cross country team as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s athletic accomplishments.
