Commending Lucille Carter Boone.

WHEREAS, Lucille Carter Boone, a vibrant member of the Portsmouth community, celebrated her 100th birthday on January 24, 2024; and

WHEREAS, born in 1924, Lucille Boone was a witness to historic events throughout the 20th century, from the Great Depression and World War II to the moon landing and the rise of modern technology in the Internet era; and

WHEREAS, a native of North Carolina, Lucille Boone moved to Portsmouth when she was orphaned after the death of her mother; she devoted herself to faith and has made numerous contributions to people in need throughout the region; and

WHEREAS, for several decades, Lucille Boone participated in the Cottage Prayer Band, a weekly community prayer group established in the 1960s, and in 1987, she joined Faith Deliverance Christian Center in Norfolk; and

WHEREAS, Lucille Boone has been a vital member of the Faith Deliverance Christian Center congregation, teaching Sunday school, participating in prayer ministries, building a strong sense of fellowship among members, and mentoring others in their journey of spiritual development; and

WHEREAS, a nurturing and family-oriented community leader, Lucille Boone takes a special interest in caring for and inspiring local children, but also relishes every opportunity to share her lifetime of wisdom with adults; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lucille Carter Boone on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lucille Carter Boone as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her achievements and commitment to her community.
