Commending Courthouse Restaurant.

WHEREAS, for nearly 15 years, Courthouse Restaurant in Gloucester County provided delicious meals while serving as a meeting place for local fundraisers and offering generous outreach to community members in need; and

WHEREAS, in 2009, Doug Hibbs was working as a deputy sheriff in Henrico County and his wife, Kim, was working at a local Walmart, when their son, Josh, informed them about a restaurant on Main Street in downtown Gloucester that was for sale; and

WHEREAS, despite having no experience in restaurant ownership, the Hibbs family strongly considered the idea and agreed to purchase the property if it was still available after they completed their upcoming family vacation to Alaska; and

WHEREAS, the Hibbs family quickly turned the Courthouse Restaurant into a fixture of the local community, offering hearty fare for breakfast and lunch, while opening their doors to monthly fundraising events for worthy causes; and

WHEREAS, the Hibbs family also developed a beloved yearly tradition of providing a free Thanksgiving dinner at Courthouse Restaurant; and

WHEREAS, the Hibbs family received many awards and accolades for their efforts to build a stronger community through Courthouse Restaurant, including the Hope Award from Sisters in the Spirit Ministries, the Everyday Hero award from WTKR News 3, and recognition from the Salvation Army; they were also selected as the parade grand marshals for the 29th annual Daffodil Festival; and

WHEREAS, with the retirement of Doug and Kim Hibbs, Courthouse Restaurant closed in 2023, opening for the last time on November 23 to offer its final free Thanksgiving dinner; and

WHEREAS, Doug and Kim Hibbs plan to seek new opportunities to serve the Gloucester community through volunteer work; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Courthouse Restaurant hereby be commended for its nearly 15 years of service to the Gloucester community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Hibbs family, owners of Courthouse Restaurant, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for their contributions to the residents of Gloucester County.
