HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 287
Commending Korean Central Presbyterian Church.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 5, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Korean Central Presbyterian Church has provided opportunities for joyful worship and generous outreach to the members of the Centreville community for more than a half-century; and

WHEREAS, Korean Central Presbyterian Church was founded on November 4, 1973, by the Reverend Myung Ho Yoon with 20 Korean American families as the original congregation; and

WHEREAS, the Korean Central Presbyterian Church held its first service in a private home and later moved to a 12-acre campus in Vienna; in July 2010, it relocated to its current location, an 130-acre campus in Centreville; and

WHEREAS, over the course of its history, the Korean Central Presbyterian Church has grown to include approximately 10,000 members with an average of 5,000 worshippers per week; the church remains engaged with the community through numerous outreach initiatives; and

WHEREAS, Korean Central Presbyterian Church leads a biweekly homeless ministry that provides food and clothing to individuals and families in need in the Greater Washington, D.C., area; and

WHEREAS, members of Korean Central Presbyterian Church in the medical professions have provided both vaccination support and standard medical evaluations to individuals in need to promote public health in the community; and

WHEREAS, Korean Central Presbyterian Church sponsored and collaborated with the Centreville Immigration Forum to ensure the stability and sustainability of the members who receive assistance from the organization; and

WHEREAS, Korean Central Presbyterian Church participated in the annual Centreville Day event and also provided parking and bath accessories to participants in the Virginia Run Turkey Trot, an annual running event that supports the organization Life with Cancer; and

WHEREAS, Korean Central Presbyterian Church supports the Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington, helping all Asian immigrants in need of support and improving the quality of life in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Korean Central Presbyterian Church supports a senior center by providing meals, skill development, and recreation, as well as practical assistance to immigrant families; and

WHEREAS, Korean Central Presbyterian Church provided financial support to local small community churches experiencing financial difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and contributed funds to Western Fairfax Christian Ministries in order to support residents who were in dire need of basic household supplies; and

WHEREAS, Senior Pastor at Korean Central Presbyterian Church, the Reverend Eung Yul Ryoo, has offered the opening prayer for the United States Congress and the invocation for the General Assembly on multiple occasions; and

WHEREAS, in January 2021, Korean Central Presbyterian Church opened a satellite location in Arlington to better serve residents of the Washington, D.C., area; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Korean Central Presbyterian Church hereby be commended for its legacy of service over the past half-century; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Korean Central Presbyterian Church as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the church’s contributions to the community and the Commonwealth.
