Celebrating the life of Henry Donald Campbell.

WHEREAS, Henry Donald Campbell of Arlington, a federal government employee who dedicated much of his life to philanthropy and servant-leadership in his community, died on February 5, 2024; and

WHEREAS, a native of Arlington, Henry Campbell was a member of Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church in his youth and spent afternoons delivering newspapers; he graduated from what is now Washington-Liberty High School, where he was a percussionist and played the timpani in the school orchestra; and

WHEREAS, Henry Campbell was a skilled mathematician and graduated from the American University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting; he subsequently worked as a project administrator in what is now the Government Accountability Office and qualified as a certified public accountant early in his career; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement, Henry Campbell joined the board of the nonprofit organization Communities In Schools as a volunteer treasurer; he also established a foundation to support a wide range of charities that benefitted children in the Commonwealth and around the world; and

WHEREAS, Henry Campbell also contributed to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief and created a scholarship at Mary Baldwin University; and

WHEREAS, a passionate lifelong learner, Henry Campbell loved books, nature shows, and any PBS program; he cultivated an encyclopedic knowledge of professional sports and demonstrated unwavering loyalty to Washington, D.C., teams; and

WHEREAS, Henry Campbell carefully curated his family’s history, documenting the contributions of his parents, Edmund and Elizabeth Campbell, to the development of Arlington after World War II, particularly his father’s work during the civil rights movement and his mother’s achievements as founder of a television station; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep faith, Henry Campbell enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a founding member of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, where he served as treasurer and senior warden; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by two siblings, Edmund and Virginia, Henry Campbell will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his twin brother, Benjamin, and his family, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Henry Donald Campbell; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Henry Donald Campbell as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
