Commending Healthy Families Rappahannock Area.

WHEREAS, for more than 25 years, Healthy Families Rappahannock Area has provided home-visitation services and other support programs to reduce risk factors and help parents develop safe and loving homes; and

WHEREAS, Healthy Families Rappahannock Area was created through an 18-month planning process after local community leaders recognized a growing need for parent education and support; and

WHEREAS, in November 1998, Healthy Families Rappahannock Area began offering screening, assessment, and home visitation services to at-risk, first-time parents in the region; in 2005, the organization expanded to serve any new parents residing in Planning District 16, which includes the City of Fredericksburg and the Counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford; and

WHEREAS, Healthy Families Rappahannock Area provides intensive home visitations, case management, a fatherhood group, developmental screening, postpartum screening, intimate partner violence screening, positive male role model screening, monthly playgroups for children, individual services plans, and parent/child interaction development programs; and

WHEREAS, the evidence-based programs at Healthy Families Rappahannock Area are designed to support parents in ways that best suit their unique needs; the organization helps parents identify their own strengths and gain self-confidence, provides the tools and knowledge to achieve success in parenthood, and empowers them to raise healthy, happy children; and

WHEREAS, individuals and families may join Healthy Families Rappahannock Area programs upon learning they are pregnant and continue participating until the child enters school; the organization recognizes that no one should feel that they need to undertake parenthood alone and has the capacity to support nearly 200 families at a time; and

WHEREAS, Healthy Families Rappahannock Area works with the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board, the Rappahannock Area Health District, Mary Washington Hospital, Stafford Hospital, Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, Project LINK, five local Departments of Social Services, and many other public and private agencies and organizations; the organization is supported by donations, locality funding, and a variety of state and federal grants; and

WHEREAS, Healthy Families Rappahannock Area has fulfilled its mission through the hard work and compassion of its staff members, the leadership and guidance of its board of directors, and generous support from community partners; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Healthy Families Rappahannock Area hereby be commended on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Healthy Families Rappahannock Area as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the organization’s achievements in service to families in the region.
