WHEREAS, for 32 years, Gilbert A. Smith has worked tirelessly to enhance the quality of life throughout Charles City County and represent the residents of District 1 as a member of the Charles City County Board of Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, Gilbert Smith has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence, deep integrity, and a passion for public service over the course of his long and fulfilling career in local government; and

WHEREAS, Gilbert Smith developed a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of the people of Charles City County, making him a trusted advocate for local residents and an invaluable source of institutional knowledge for his fellow public servants; and

WHEREAS, Gilbert Smith worked diligently to address the concerns of community members and placed a high priority on improving public services and promoting responsible development; and

WHEREAS, Gilbert Smith oversaw vital transportation initiatives, welcomed new businesses, and helped ensure the completion of a new fire station, which was named in his honor in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Gilbert Smith fostered collaboration and cultivated effective decision-making processes within the Charles City County Board of Supervisors, greatly contributing to the overall growth of the community; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure on the Charles City County Board of Supervisors, Gilbert Smith proudly served terms as vice-chair and chair, guiding the board with visionary leadership and wisdom; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Gilbert A. Smith hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement from the Charles City County Board of Supervisors; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gilbert A. Smith as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his exceptional service and dedication to the residents of Charles City County.
