2024 SESSION
24105022DWHEREAS, Laura Kirk Fletcher, a vibrant member of the Smithfield community and a caring wife, mother, and grandmother, died on January 1, 2024; and
WHEREAS, born in Pennsylvania, Laura Fletcher spent much of her early life in Newport News and graduated from Warwick High School; and
WHEREAS, Laura Fletcher continued her education in Alabama, where she earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University, then ultimately returned to the Commonwealth and settled in Smithfield; and
WHEREAS, Laura Fletcher was guided by her unwavering commitment to her faith, her family, and her community in all her actions and good deeds; and
WHEREAS, Laura Fletcher was deeply committed to civic engagement, and was an integral part of establishing “Breakfast Clubs” across Eastern Virginia to encourage such political engagement; and
WHEREAS, Laura Fletcher was well-known for her incomparable hospitality, and she inspired others through her kindness, generosity, and grace; and
WHEREAS, Laura Fletcher will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband of 31 years, Mark; her children, Elizabeth, David, and Alan, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Laura Kirk Fletcher, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend in Smithfield; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Laura Kirk Fletcher as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
